Back-Farms connects volunteer Garden Apprentices with senior citizens to build, cultivate, and maintain organic gardens in their backyards, providing a hands-on educational experience, connections, and fresh, local produce to all participants.

As one of several company activities planned during FFKR Architects Green Month, ten FFKR Architects employees were able to volunteer to prep one of the oldest gardens in the Back Farms program. Mary, the senior who lives at the property, has been participating in the program for seven years. Back farms supplied the tools and volunteers focused on prepping the garden beds by weeding, amending the soil with nitrogen, and aerating the soil with broad forks. The group worked for nearly two hours and completed all of the tasks needed in order to plant the garden in the next few weeks.
