Salt Lake Tabernacle
Salt Lake City — The primary purpose of the project was the need to strengthen and reinforce the building against earthquake forces. The preliminary structural studies identified areas of deficiencies that the Owner agreed to address. The work was so extensive it required the removal and replacement of all building systems including mechanical and ventilation, light and power, and electronics and cabling used in the broadcasts for the Tabernacle Choir. The building serves many functions beyond its role as the practice and broadcast home of the Mormon Tabernacle Choir. It is the home for many ecclesial meetings, conferences, musical performances for both large and small groups. It is also the home for daily organ recitals on the much-loved and world-famous Aeolian-Skinner Great Organ. The design team had specific instructions that the work must have minimum impact on the existing historic fabric of the building – visually and historically.
