FFKR’s Landscape Studio with Lloyd Architects re-envisioned Heber Utah’s historic 135-year-old Homestead Resort centered around the Midway Crater, a geothermal spring hidden within a 55-foot-tall, beehive-shaped limestone rock.
The goal was to return the resort to its prior elegance, appeal, and status as the go-to resort for families, individuals, and corporate groups. The scope included a complete renovation of existing cottage units and existing historic buildings, as well as new additions, including a main hotel lobby, spa, golf clubhouse, restaurants, wedding event barn, convention facilities, additional guest rooms, activity center, and fully re-envisioned outdoor pool facilities and outdoor amenity and gardens throughout the property.

1886 Grill
The team and Clowards H2O developed an exciting outdoor pool experience for the Homestead Resort. This includes a large, uniquely shaped pool with a zero-entry design. The pool area was also designed to be integrated with the existing 1886 Grill so guests can get food and drinks without leaving the pool area.
Pool Grotto
The main pool includes the Grotto, a grand feature of the outdoor pool space. This unique design feature offers multiple guest experiences, including a waterfall, a walkway that takes you under the falls, lounge seating, and a fire pit area on top that overlooks the pools and golf course. The design intended to look like the water was flowing from the crater into the Grotto and over the falls into the pool.

Event Lawn
We designed the event lawn to be multi-functional for any event at the Homestead Pools. The large turf grass space is centrally located between the main pool area and the adult pool, providing access from all spaces and softening up the desk area with the turf grass.
Adult Pool Area
The adult pool area at the Homestead Pool caps off the pools on the lower level with a creative and peaceful space for guests. The pool offers a shallow deck to lounge in, fire bowls that frame the stair entry of the pool, and an accessible ramp entry in the pool space. The pool is surrounded by a curved pergola and private cabanas, offering a variety of seating and lounging options.

Private Upper Spa
The Homestead Pool has a variety of pools and spas throughout the space, including a reserved spa area for private parties. This spa was precisely located to have exciting views from the spa to the pools, golf course, and crater, as well as a sense of privacy from the rest of the pools and spas. The raised spa has faux rockwork along the outside to match the overall aesthetic of the pool and private cabana spaces for the guests.

Cascading Spas
The cascading spas, located at the upper pool level, were designed to look as though the water was flowing down from the crater and into the sizeable faux rock feature. The water would then fall into the upper spa, overflow, and cascade to the lower spa.
