FFKR is working Herriman City to update their General Plan. As a fast-growing community on the southwest corner of Salt Lake County, Herriman has been leveraging regional growth into local opportunities while also feeling burdened with its impacts. To help the community understand the impacts related to alternative scenarios for undeveloped land within city boundaries as well as areas adjacent, FFKR has utilized the Urban Footprint scenario software. Knowing that Herriman, like many cities, is a community with a diverse range of views, FFKR has utilized a range of outreach platforms. By having a table at several different community events throughout the year, we have heard from many voices. Conducting “pop-up” events at local stores and activity centers were successful in getting a range of opinions on controversial issues like housing density and mixed use. A key component of the process has been educating the community on the role of master development agreements and helping them understand which areas of the city are not yet built, but already planned out.
